One Dead in Motorcycle Accident

A 48-year-old Temecula resident was killed Sunday when he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and slid into a truck on Lilac Road in Valley Center, the Medical Examiner’s office reported. Bradley Robert Eckhardt was riding a 1969 Yamaha R350 southbound on Lilac, just south of West Lilac Road, at about 10:30 a.m. when he collided with a Dodge Ram 250 towing a loaded horse trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner’s office said it is not known why he lost control of the motorcycle. An autopsy is pending.

Charity Cyclist en route to San Diego Killed

RINGTOWN, Pa. — A 19-year-old Pennsylvania man riding his bicycle to San Diego to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research was struck and killed by an SUV in New Mexico. Officials say John Anczarski, of Ringtown, Pa., died Tuesday of injuries suffered a day earlier in New Laguna, N.M., about 50 miles west of Albuquerque. Anczarski, a University of Colorado engineering student, and three friends called their project “The Pink Pedal.” The group said it had raised several thousand dollars for cancer research. They left Pennsylvania on May 23 and expected to reach San Diego next month. Police say the investigation into the crash has been turned over to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, because the accident occurred on tribal land. No charges have been filed.

Falling freeway Barbecue Kills Motorcyclist and Injures Wife

ESCONDIDO — A man was killed and his wife was injured early Tuesday when they were thrown from their motorcycle after running into a barbecue that had fallen onto a North County freeway. he couple, identified as David Jensen, 49, and Bernadine Jensen, 52, of Lakeside, were heading south on Interstate 15 just north of Via Rancho Parkway on a 2005 Harley-Davidson about 12:35 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Newbury. They were traveling in the fast lane when they struck the barbecue, which had fallen off a vehicle. “They drove right into it,” Newbury said. The impact sent the grill rolling into one of the middle lanes, where it was hit by 2008 Toyota Prius being driven by a 31-year-old Carlsbad woman, authorities said. The car hit the barbecue and then struck David Jensen, Newbury said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife suffered a broken left ankle and other injuries and was taken to a hospital, Newbury said. The driver of the Toyota stopped. Officers are investigating and will determine if there were any witnesses who saw the barbecue come off the vehicle, Newbury said. If that driver can be located and it can be proved that the driver was aware that something fell out of the vehicle, the motorist could face criminal charges or be held civilly liable. According to state law, the only thing that can legally come off a moving vehicle is water and bird feathers, Newbury said. All southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down until the early morning hours.

El Cajon Motorcyclist Dies In Crash

EL CAJON — A 38-year-old El Cajon man riding a motorcycle died from injuries he suffered when he collided with a Toyota Camry Sunday night, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. Nathaniel Joseph Camacho was heading east on Greenfield Drive near First Street about 8:50 p.m. on a 2001 Honda CBR motorcycle when he collided with the driver’s side of the Camry as it made a U-turn on Greenfield Drive, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. He was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he died about three hours later. No other injuries were reported. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Moped Rider run over in Otay Mesa

A moped rider was struck by a car and suffered a head injury Wednesday, police said. The accident was reported at 9:32 a.m. on Otay Center Drive near Siempre Viva Road. Police and paramedics respondeded and one person was taken to the hospital. No other information was immediately released.

Motorcyclist hit in head on crash

SAN DIEGO — A motorcyclist suffered serious traumas April 24 in Linda Vista which lead to two people being arrested after the head-on collision. The 43-year-old man was riding north on Comstock Street near Comly Street just after 6 p.m. when he was hit by an SUV heading south being driven by a 25-year-old woman, according to San Diego police. The SUV crossed into the northbound lane, ran over the motorcycle rider and proceeded to drag him underneath the vehicle, police said. The driver, who was on her cell phone prior to the crash, was arrested for reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and outstanding warrants, police said. A 30-year-old passenger who tried to run away after the collision was arrested for possession of a methamphetamine pipe, police said. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was being treated for serious leg injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision but drugs possibly were, police said.

Motorcycle Rider Dies In Crash

SAN DIEGO — A motorcyclists died while exiting a freeway offramp. A driver discovered the bike lying on the ground about 1:30 a.m. on the northbound Interstate 805 ramp to the westbound Interstate 8 connector, the California Highway Patrol said.

It appears the rider was thrown off the bike and over the embankment. His body was found in a parking lot, the CHP said.

The ramp was closed until about 3:45 as authorities investigated.

The name of the man has not been released.

North County Harley Rider Killed in Crash

OCEANSIDE — Ronald Neeley, a 52-year-old man,who was killed in a motorcycle wreck last week during rush hour traffic. Neeley, who was traveling east on state Route 76 on his Harley Davidson motorcycle near Jeffries Ranch Road around 5 p.m. last Thursday when the vehicles in front of him suddenly stopped. Ronald Neeley was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected. Neeley was life flighted to Scripps Hospital and was treated for severe head injuries. He later died while under life support.

Multi Car Pile Up on I-15

ESCONDIDO — Debris scattered across the northbound lanes on I-15 close to state Route 78 has caused several wrecks and has severely slowed traffic Monday during the evening commute, according to a CHP spokesperson. A truck lost most of its load around 7 in the evening, causing the multi car pile up, which included several cars and a Semi-truck. The CHP said at least one ambulance has been sent to the site of the crash and at least one person suffered minor injuries. Traffic was stopped for about 30 minutes as officers cleared part of the freeway to allow traffic to start flowing again, the CHP said.

San Miguel Fire District Cash for Crashes

The San Miguel fire district, which includes Rancho San Diego, Mount Helix, Bostonia, Crest, Spring Valley, Casa de Oro, La Presa, and unincorporated areas of El Cajon, are facing some significant budget short falls this year. The recently proposed car crash charges by the San Miguel fire district would be for those utilizing the services of the district but do not reside in it, as well as for those who are found to be at fault. The crash tax fees range from $400 to more than $2,000. There would also be a hazardous chemical fee for spilled gasoline and car fires. There is even a charge of upwards of $2,100 if a helicopter is needed. The eastern San Diego district covers 47-square miles The voting on the crash tax takes place on January 14th and if approved would go into effect within 2 months. The district fire chief has stated that due to budget decreases this is the only way the district can continue to provide the same level of services.
